Review: Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Carnation (12)

Hello, i hope you are having a good Christmas break with your family and friends and got lots of lovely presents and gifts for christmas, and feel like a very lucky, spoilt girl (or boy!), i certainly do. This weeks posts are all going to be about some of the lovely christmas gifts I got, all with reviews, descriptions of the product, dupes (if they are beauty related!) and prices, especially if they are in the sales.

So I bet you are wondering what todays post is going to be about (if you haven't read the title yet!), do you want to know what it is, yes...... The Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Carnation. When i put my hand into my stocking on Christmas Morning , and brought out a little rectangle box, I opened it and as soon as i saw the white Bobbi Brown writing I practically had a heart attack. It was only till after I had stopped hyperventilating, I thought to check the colour, and guess what it was like the most amazing peachy, pinky, coral colour, that was perfect for me!

Just like the colour of a Carnation flower, the lipstick is a shade of pink that has many tones of peach, coral, brown and reds, and is a perfect everyday, usable colour. Like any Bobbi Brown Lipstick, you can expect high quality from it and long staying power, but I never expected it to look so luxurious on the lips, hydrate them throughout the day and to stay put for around 3-4 hours, (but with me eating lunch in that time and licking my lips because it was so yummy). This colour is a really universal shade that will suit anyone, the pinks and peachy tones suit people like me with a fair/ medium complexion, I also imagine it would suit olive, medium and even darker complexions because of the huge mix of tones and shades in the colour. For example the peachy/ coral tones really complement olive, tanned and medium complexions because of their sun kissed skin, and the baby pinks really complement fairer complexions because it doesn't make them look fairer than they actually are, and it doesn't mix their lips into their skin.

For a more daytime look, I would recommend wearing this lipstick lightly over a Chapstick or lip balm to keep the lips moisturised all day, and to add the tiniest bit of powder over the lips to keep it from rubbing off too. You can wear this lipstick in the day with a neutral eye, that has subtle colours of brown and nude eye shadows and also with some smudged brown pencil eye liner to create a softer, less harsh look, but still letting your eyes slightly pop.

For a more evening/ party look, I would recommend wearing this lipstick like you would in the daytime (with some Chapstick underneath to stop your lips from drying up), but maybe adding a lipgloss of a similar colour over the top to add a more dramatic and more party look and a lipliner in a similar colour to define the lips more, and give them a better shape. A great lipgloss of a similar colour is the Bobbi Brown Brightening Lip Gloss in Peach, the colour isn't a exact match but it really complements the colour of the lipstick though, also a lipliner in a very similar colour to Carnation is the Bobbi Brown LipLiner in Rose, the colour match is almost identical and blends into the lipstick seamlessly.

Now you maybe thinking is there a dupe to this lipstick, and preferably a drugstore dupe, well I have done some researching and so far I haven't been able to find a drugstore or cheap version of this amazing colour. But when I was looking through my makeup collection i found my Smashbox Megatint Long Wear Lipstick in Whirl and thought I would just see if it was a similar colour, and to my delight it was almost a exact replica. Astonishingly the colour is the same shade of peachy rose, and has very similar properties to the Bobbi Brown version, they are both moisturising, stay on for around 3-4 hours (with eating though), and look luxurious on the lips. You maybe now thinking that Smashbox is a high end makeup brand, and probably has the same price as the Bobbi Brown version, the Smashbox price retails for £15.50 in Boots, which is a lot for a lipstick but is worth it, but the Bobbie Brown version only retails for £3.50 more at House of Fraser, at £19, which is also worth the price, so what one do you go for. If £15.50 is a stretch for you I would recommend getting the Smashbox Megatint Long Wear Lip Colour in Whirl, but if you can spare £3.50 more i would defiantly recommend the Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Carnation.

I hope you have enjoyed todays review post, I really enjoy writing reviews on products I love especially if I am obsessed with it at the moment (could you tell i was obsessed with the Bobbi Brown Lipstick). If you did like it then well today was your lucky day because all this week i am
doing beauty reviews on the products I got for Christmas, and if you want a sneak peek of my next post it is fragrance related, and I have posted a picture of it on my Instagram page (look to the right of this page for the link!). If you do find the picture, comment on it saying The Student Beauty Bag Blog sent me hear, it can be are own little game!

My Top 5 Weekend Pamper Essentials!

It's Fridayyyyyy!!!!!!!! Yayyyyy which means time for the weekend, which also leads onto my Top 5 Weekend Pamper essentials. This week I have carefully selected 5 of my favourite pamper essentials that I'm going to use this weekend, there is a mix of many drugstore products mixed in with a high end product that certainly earns it's place though, enjoy!

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask- £22.00
As I have said before, I have really dry and sensitive skin, and when I use this hydrating mask, it makes a real difference. I LOVE the Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask better than the 10 minute version because I feel it makes more of a difference, and plus its a wonderful cream to sleep in, and doesn't feel like a overnight mask at all. You maybe thinking this is a Student friendly blog, and if anything I should be recommending a drugstore version, but no this is one of the best £22 i have spent in a long time, it was defiantly worth it. As far as i know there isn't a stand out drugstore dupe to this mask, but I would think any overnight hydrating mask, or even a hydrating mask has similar properties to this. I use this product mainly on a sunday to prep my skin for the weekend ahead, it has a lovely mango scent with a gel/cream consistency, perfect when using a thick layer to properly moisturise your skin. If you want i maybe would be able to write up a full post on this and give your more detail?

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub- £8.00
The sweet lime and brown sugar scent mixed with almond oil and macadamia grains smashed all together make this perfect body scrub, and for any Soap and Glory fan, this scrub is essential in their pampering session. Surprisingly, this scrub is also very moisturising, its not greasy, and has a thick consistency that is perfect for even sensitive skin like mine. I have had my tub for about a month now and have used a bit off the top, I scrub my legs and arms with it once to twice a week to get rid of the horrible dry, dead skin on my elbows, knees and feet, and its easy to wash off, bonus. All round this is a really good product and I definitely recommend it, even if its just so the wonderful sweet scent, mmmm.

Garnier Ultimate Beauty Oil Skin Perfecter-£7.49
This beauty oil has many advantages, but one quite annoying disadvantage, but I can get through that disadvantage to use this quite regularly when I want a bit of a pamper evening session for the weekend. Let me start with the advantages, firstly this is a really lovely beauty oil, its a runny, silky oil that nourishes and hydrates your skin leaving it feel moisturised, secondly the oil absorbs very quickly into the skin, without making the skin sticky, and thirdly, it smells amazing! The scent of the oil really reflects the oils inside, Argan, Macadamia, Rose and Almond, which leaves the skin silky smooth. But there is one quite big disadvantage, the bottle. The plastic, oddly shaped bottle slips through your hand when you apply the oil to your skin, and makes the bottle all sticky, this does put me off using it sometime, if you can get past that, the oil is amazing and worth the bottle.

Vo5 Treat Me Right Rinse Out Deep Conditioning Treatment- £4.39
This deep conditioning hair mask treatment is really worth the small £4.39 it costs, i really recommend it, even if you don't want to use it as a treatment mask, it would act as a good everyday hair conditioner. It is a thick, creamy conditioner with 5 essential, natural oils, Argan, Apricot, Jojoba, Avocado and Grape seed that condition the hair to make it shiny, silky, repaired and hydrated, making it look brand new. I have had this hair mask now for a couple of months, and i have mixed reviews for it, it is a good conditioner that does make a difference to your hair, but i do feel from a deep conditioning hair treatment I would like to feel more of a difference, thats why i also recommend it as a more of a everyday conditioner, or your normal conditioner. When i do finish this though i may buy this as my normal conditioner, and experiment with a few more different deep conditioners.

Lush Magic Wand Reusable Bubble Bar- £4.95???
This reusable bubble bar is amazing, I have only used it once, but i know its going to be one of my favourite Lush products. As you may have noticed in the title, after i put the price as £4.95, and then put a question mark, the reason for this is because I got this from a friend for Christmas and it didn't say the price, and online the product is out of stock so I cant see the price, but I have done some investigating and i think the price was £4.95 though i am not sure. Anyway back to the bubble bar, i am totally in love with this product, when i used it this morning i fell head over heels in love with it, the scent if the ever so popular Snow Fairy scent, and the bar is supposed to be able to be used up to 10 times!!! But there is one tiny downside to this product and that is the stick it comes on, its quite flexible and i was a little worried that it would break, but I'm sure it wont, and anyway its defiantly overshadowed by the amazingness of the product.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and liked looking and getting ideas on what to use in the weekend for pamper ideas, i think i am going to start this as a series and every fortnight on a friday, to post a little my top 5 weekend pamper essentials, would you like that? Hope you had a good christmas and see you in a few days.

My December Favourites!

So, I suppose I have got the dreaded first post over with, and now I can just start bloging like normal, right? If you do have any queries as such or questions, or even any recommendations or reviews you want me to do, comment on this post, email me at TheStudentBeautyBag@gmail.com or contact me through any of the social media sites on the right of this page, I promise I will listen!

Anyway I have chosen my first proper post to be..... (if you haven't already guessed it by the title yet!) My December Favourites. I realised for you guys to get to know me more, I should tell you a few of my favourite Beauty, Hair, Fragrance & Lifestyle things of the past month. I hope you enjoy reading my favourites!

Beauty
This past month hasn't been the best month for new (and exciting) beauty products, I haven't been the best at experimenting with new products, and have kind of stuck with the same old boring products :(. But saying that there have been a couple of essential products that I have used this month, and have been really loving, Que. the maybe short of maybe long list:

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer-£5.49
I LOVE this concealer, and have gone through three bottles of this stuff since I got it in the Summer. But I really have been loving it recently because I have braved the fresh faced look (oh my god), and this has really helped, I started to get really fed up with foundation every morning, so I just used this. It is a full coverage concealer, that really wakes you up (hence the name), and is perfect for brightening the dreaded under eye circles, and those pesky red blemishes.

Real techniques miracle complexion sponge- £5.99
This sponge has really earnt it's place in my December Favourites, ever since I brought it in mid November, I have used it everyday to blend in my foundation and concealer. Before I tried this sponge I had never tried a make-up sponge before, so I had little exceptions, but boy this little thing has changed my life so much, I haven't touched my other concealer and foundation brushes since! I may even do another blog post on this because I have so much love for it, would you like that?

Hair
As you know (or actually you don't because this is only my second post) I have the worlds most frizzy, curly, dreadful hair, I just hate it. I have never really like the fact that my hair was just weird, normal curly hair doesn't have half of much frizz than mine, it's intolerable. Because of this though it always seems that I'm trying new products for my hair, that I hope will change my life forever, unfortunately this month I haven't really experimented much, apart from the next product.

Wella System Professional Clear Scalp- £10.95
As well as having crazy curly and frizzy hair, I also sometimes have psoriasis and eczema on my scalp, and shampoos and conditioners really irritate it. I know this is supposed to be a student friendly blog, with the drugstore and cheaper versions of the high end versions, and this product really isn't 'drugstore' but I had to include it. This shampoo has really helped since I got it in mid November, every time I have washed my hair I just rub it in, and it doesn't make the skin sting and itch, it has been a real life saver.

Fragrance
Ohhhh how much do I love fragrance, perfume and body sprays are one of my favourite things in the world, and I have my fare few of them. I love the delicate little bottles of perfumes and the practicality of body sprays and that you can take them anywhere, and they even smell nice. For many of your fragrance lovers this perfume will not be a surprise, and let's all LOVE it together (yay).

Honey Eau De Parfum By Marc Jacobs (50ml) Gift Set- £39.50
This perfume is just perfect, nothing else is needed to say anything about it. The sweet, floral feel when you spray it is just filled with happiness, it has a happy scent that would be perfect for anyone, and just makes you smile. The fruity orange, peach and apricot scent mixed in with the base notes of vanilla and honey, really add to the perfume, and make it very summery. But lets not forget the bottle, oh my god, it is just amazing, and really represent the scent inside, and is perfect for adding a sprinkling of summer to your dressing table. Can you tell its my favourite scent?

Lifestyle
My lifestyle choice this month isn't really in the lifestyle category, it is a fashion favourite. Anyone who knows me will know that i have a massive passion towards shoes, I love them. Flats, boots, Heels, anything, I will stare at them for hours in a shop window and dream about them till I cant handle it and break the bank by buying them. When i first saw these nest pair of boots, I fell in love and had to get them.

Black Cut Out Buckle Ankle Boots- £24.99
These boots are just amazing, they are just what i was looking for, with a perfect price tag. The cut out bits panels add interesting detail to the boot, and the buckles really add to the all together look of the boot. The heel is roughly 3.5 inches (9cm), which for me is quite high to walk around in everyday, but they are really nice if you are only running a few errands, or going to lunch. They look really nice with jeans and leggings, and even tights with a skater skirt, they add detail to the outfit and can dress up an outfit too. These boots are a perfect all round boot and I really recommend them, and can you really resist that price tag?

Welcome to The Student Beauty Bag!

Hello, and welcome to the Student Beauty Bag Blog, the centre of all things Beauty, Hair, Fragrance and Lifestyle, with some fashion, healthy recipes and crafty ideas mixed in. Beauty is my passion, especially drugstore make-up (the joys of being a student with no money), which is the reason why I'm creating this blog. I hope to inspire beauty addicts like me, especially students who have little money, that they can still buy make-up (but not in huge quantities though), and how to appreciate it more.

As a student myself, I have learnt, and want to teach you readers, how you can still be a beauty addict, and that there are many duplicates to popular, high end make-up brands, that you can find in the drugstore.

In this blog you will see lots of recommendations and reviews, for people who are a bit short of cash, and the people who want to splurge a bit in the beauty aisles. There will also be lots of drugstore duplicates of the high end versions, gift guides, my essentials and favourites all bundled up into a handy little package called The Student Beauty Bag.

But this blog is not just dedicated to students who are a bit short of cash, I also want to make people aware of the chemicals inside make-up, and beauty products. As someone who has facial psoriasis and eczema, I know that there are certain chemicals in beauty products that aggregate my skin, so its also my aim to make people more aware of what is in their make-up that they put on their face everyday, and the effects it has on their skin.
